Tolo Tavern in Central Point, Shady Cove Chevron in Shady Cove, and Redwood Select Market in Grants Pass sold alcohol to an underage volunteer working with liquor control commission inspectors. The state agency that controls liquor sales periodically tests to ensure sellers comply with state rules. In the compliance checks, people between 18 and 20 try to buy alcohol to see if sellers are checking identification and obeying state prohibitions of selling alcohol to anyone under 21. The underage volunteers, supervised by inspectors or other law officers, carry their own legal identification and are told not to lie about their ages. Business employees who sell to underage customers are cited into court and face fines of up to $350. The businesses face administrative sanctions including fines and liquor-license suspension. Businesses that refused to sell alcohol to youth included Medford Oaks RV Park and Juan’s El Caporal, both of Eagle Point; Foots Creek Country Store in Gold Hill; Prospect Cafe & Trophy Room in Prospect; Shady Cove 76 & Taco Bell in Shady Cove; and Bridge Street Market and Circle K, both of Grants Pass.
