Historical Society plans talks in Ashland ASHLAND � The Southern Oregon Historical Society will offer an Ashland lecture series, "Community Pillars: The Making of a City" beginning Oct. 3. The lectures will be 7:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays in Ashland High School�s English Lecture Hall, 201 S. Mountain Avenue. Beginning with a general overview of Ashland history, the series will focus on five long-standing Ashland establishments and their contributions to Ashland�s development. The fee per lecture is $10 for Society members; $12 for non-members. Preregistration is advised. The schedule: Oct. 3: "One Hundred and Fifty Years of Ashland History." Joe Peterson, Southern Oregon University adjunct history instructor and history teacher at Ashland High School, will discuss how events in Ashland mirrored national events. Oct. 10: Kay Atwood, local historian and author, will trace the history and development of Ashland�s city government, public works, health, electric and other departments. Oct. 17: Ed Brubaker will discuss the history of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Oct. 24: Art Kreisman will discuss the history of Southern Oregon University. Oct. 31: Jim Watson will discuss the history of Ashland Community Hospital. To preregister or for information, call 773-6536.
