Jimmy Roy Kelly, 50, of the 11000 block of Perry Road, was sentenced Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court to a year and six months in prison. Kelly pleaded guilty last week to two counts of first-degree aggravated theft. Circuit Court Judge Ray White agreed to dismiss counts of criminal mistreatment, forgery and identity theft in exchange for Kelly’s plea. The 71-year-old victim hired Kelly to do odd jobs and stay overnight at her Central Point home. Kelly was arrested March 29 after a Medford Bank of America employee noticed that he was cashing large checks between October and January against the victim’s account. The victim also had given Kelly her automated teller card and personal identification number (PIN) to make bank withdrawals for her, police said. Kelly told White that he was sorry for the crime and vowed to pay back the money he stole. White told Kelly he had plenty of time to feel sorry before he was caught. "This is kind of the caregiver from hell," White told the court. Advertisement Kelly is a paroled sex offender who was wanted by the state parole board at the time of his employment with the victim. Kelly’s father, a friend of the victim, introduced his son to the elderly woman. Police said they also believe Kelly installed his former girlfriend, Tamara Ann Bauer, as the victim’s new caregiver to continue the theft scheme. Bauer, 42, of the 200 block of West Gregory Road, Central Point, was arrested March 31 on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment, first-degree theft and three counts of identity theft. Police say that Bauer took the elderly woman’s credit card for her own use and also stole cash from her. Bauer was released from jail the day after her arrest and remains free while her case is pending. She is scheduled to hear the charges against her Thursday morning in Circuit Court. The victim is now receiving assistance from a licensed caregiver, police said.
