Unity in Ashland and Minister Norma Nakai Burton will present "Mother's Day — A Ritual of Remembrance" from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 8, at the Havurah, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Music will be provided by Laura Derocher and Richard Williams. The Rev. Karen Harris will address "Mother's Wisdom" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 8, at the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. The fellowship also plans a series of conversations on Unitarian Universalism for nonmembers from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, May 11, 18 and 25, at the fellowship. Walker, a gastroenterologist in Medford, will examine the discoveries and breakthroughs of medical pioneers and their struggles in the political, economic and psychosocial spheres of their times. The Jewish Learning Institute of Southern Oregon will host a six-week course, called "Oasis in Time: The Gift of Shabbat in a 24/7 World," at 7 p.m. Wednesdays beginning May 11 at the Chabad Jewish Center in Ashland. Rabbi Avi Zwiebel will lead the course, designed to offer ways to achieve a life of rest, relaxation, inspiration and fulfillment amid the distractions and circumstances that breed stress and anxiety. Mary and Ned Rosenbaum, nationally recognized scholars with extensive expertise in interfaith dynamics, will give four presentations as part of the Temple Emek Shalom's Scholar-in-Residence program. Zaslow believes it's important to learn the history and understand the situation in the Middle East in order to be able to respond to those who are in favor of boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel.
