Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend July 3, 2005 Boyd, Eubank go on power surge as Mustangs win twice Logan Boyd and Abe Eubank went on a home run spree Saturday to lead the Medford Mustangs to a pair of American Legion baseball victories. Boyd and Eubank each homered during the Mustangs’ 11-1 victory over Lake Oswego in the Lakeridge Firecracker Tournament at Lakeridge High in Lake Oswego. A couple hours later, the potent pair was at it again, each homering in a 15-5 victory over Jesuit. For Eubank, it marked his fourth homer in as many games and his seventh of the season. He was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the win over Jesuit, which also featured circuit clouts from Medford’s Chad Hegdahl and Dan Chancler. Both games were stopped after five innings by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule. Advertisement Boyd’s two-run blast sparked Medford to a 4-1 lead in the first inning of its game against Lake Oswego. Eubank led off the third inning with a solo shot. The Mustangs put Lake Oswego away by scoring five runs on just two hits — a single by Brenton Ferguson and an RBI double by Kyle Williamson — in the fifth inning. Lake Oswego aided its demise in the inning by committing three errors, a passed ball and a wild pitch. Ferguson, Kyle Williamson and Hegdahl each had two hits against Lake Oswego, while Chancler, Williamson, Boyd, Ryan Odell, Jared Adamson and Darren Bruhns each had two hits against Jesuit. Today, Medford completes pool play in the Lakeridge tournament with a game against Southridge. A victory would send the Mustangs into the championship game. Boys Little League DISTRICT 8 TOURNAMENTS — Central Point Red advanced to the semifinals of the 9-10-year-old tournament as it defeated the Grants Pass Nationals 15-4 at the Medford National Little League fields. Also advancing to the semi-finals were the top-seeded Grants Pass Americans as they knocked off No. 8-seeded Gold Valley 11-0 and No. 2-seeded Medford West Gray with their win over Illinois Valley, 14-2. Semifinal play is today at 3 p.m. at the Medford National Little League Fields. In 11-year-old semifinal play, No. 4-seeded Central Point beat No. 5-seeded Medford National Central 13-2 and the No. 2-seeded Grants Pass Americans defeated Medford National West 11-7. Winner of Central Point vs. the Grants Pass Americans in today’s last semifinal game decides who will play the top-seeded Grants Pass Nationals in the Championship game on July 5. In other Little League Baseball, Medford National West defeated Illinois Valley 11-1 in four innings and Brookings Harbor, 14-7, while Central Point beat Gold Valley, 7-1. The two winners qualified for single elimination play. In another game, the Grants Pass Americans were victorious over the Grants Pass Nationals, 11-1. Pool play in the 13-14-year-old junior tournament at the Central Point Little League Fields began with the Grants Pass Nationals falling short to Central Valley 9-4, with Brookings Harbor taking down Rogue River in five innings, 30-4 and Illinois Valley sliding by the Grants Pass Nationals, 1-0. Little League Softball DISTRICT 8 TOURNAMENT — At Central Point, Central Point bounced past Medford 18-16, as pool play began for the 9-10-year-old league at the Central Point Little League Fields. In other 9-10-year-old play, Grants Pass took out Brookings-Harbor, 20-1, and Gold Valley defeated Rogue River, 22-10. In Little League softball, Medford and Central Point split as Central Point fell short to Grants Pass, 13-9, but rebounded against Medford, 20-19. Medford bounced back against Rogue River, 12-7.
