According to a probable cause affidavit written by a Jackson County sheriff's deputy, Hector Orozco — then 17 — Osbaldo David Espinoza and Cristobal Lynn Barajas got into a verbal altercation May 20 in White City with another group of men they were attempting to fight near the intersection of Jacqueline Way and Avenue C. According to the Sheriff's Office, Orozco had a handgun and the four threatened to shoot 41-year-old James Bruce Firestone. Authorities said seven people were believed to have been involved in the fight, including members of the rival Norteno gang. The three, along with Christian Omar Espinosa, were also charged in connection with a May 7 drive-by shooting on Hale Way, also in unincorporated White City, in which authorities said Orozco was believed to have fired a shotgun at a nearby home from a blue Pontiac Sunfire. Orozco pleaded guilty Wednesday to unlawful use of a weapon, riot, conspiracy to commit a Class B felony and conspiracy to commit a Class C felony. Charges of second-degree disorderly conduct and an additional count of riot were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. According to court records, a sentencing date has yet to be set. Cristobal Barajas pleaded guilty Aug. 4 to charges of unlawful use of a weapon, conspiracy to commit a Class C felony and menacing. He was sentenced to 80 days in jail, with credit for time served, on the menacing charge and three years probation on the weapons and conspiracy charges. Osbaldo Espinosa pleaded guilty Nov. 10 to charges of unlawful use of a weapon and conspiracy to commit a Class C felony, and was also sentenced to three years probation. Christian Espinosa pleaded guilty Dec. 9 to charges of conspiracy to commit a Class B felony, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. He was sentenced to a total of five years probation. Reach reporter Thomas Moriarty at 541-776-4471, or by email at [email protected] . Follow him at @ThomasDMoriarty .
