Victim of homicide found under bushes Skeletal remains still not identified By JESSICA SMITH The remains of a man found near Trail show that he was the victim of foul play, Jackson County Sheriff's officials said. "It was definitely a homicide. There's no question this man was murdered," said Dr. Jim Olson, the district medical examiner. Olson performed an autopsy on the man's unidentified remains Monday, but officials would not say Wednesday how he died. A Trail man discovered the skeletal remains Sunday afternoon while clearing blackberry bushes near his home on Busch Road, about half a mile east of the Rogue River Lodge on Highway 62. The remains were hidden under some pipes, buried in a sleeping bag, officials said. According to Olson, there are few clues to the victim's identity. Only the man's skeleton remained and most of his clothing had disintegrated. But the autopsy showed that the remains belonged to a white man, 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-2, between the ages of 45 and 55, Olson said. Officials have ruled out the possibility that the victim is Robert Michael Bobo, a 36-year-old man who disappeared in October 1998. Bobo apparently spent the night of Oct. 2 at a campsite in the Rogue River National Forest near Union Creek. When friends came to collect Bobo for a hunting trip, they were unable to find him. "We have some missing persons reports, but the examination says that it's not any of those people," said sheriff's department Lt. Dewey Patton. The Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit is looking into the homicide. Officers from the Medford, Ashland and Central Point police departments are working with Oregon State Police troopers, sheriff's deputies and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office to identify the victim. "We're just beginning to try and back trace and find out who lived at this home" where the remains were found, said Patton. The home apparently is a rental property. Patton said investigators have contacted the owners for a list of former tenants.
