Art show will open with attitude ASHLAND -- It sounds like something you'd see in San Francisco -- an art show called "Women with Attitude and Men who like Women with Attitude" and a big performance art shindig to kick it off. But it's not in Baghdad by the Bay, it's in Ashland by the tracks, happening from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at JEGA Gallery, 625 A St., in the city's old railroad district. "It's gonna be fun, performance and artwork," gallery owner J. Ellen Austin says. Aletha Nowitzky, better known as the irreverent Ma Cappella, gets things going at 6 p.m. Following Cappella will be performance artists Randy Pijoan and Jonathan Allen. Austin doesn't want to give away the exhibits, but one is said to be a sendup of Duchamp's seminal Cubist painting "Nude Descending a Staircase" that includes a Barbie doll and a material that resembles a barnyard substance. A "Women with Attitude" show premiered at JEGA last year and was a smash. This one's being held in connection with Women's History Month and the Ashland Gallery Association's First Friday art walk.
