SINCE YOU ASKED Since You Asked: Cleanup set for exposed Emigrant Lake With Emigrant Lake 8 percent of full, a local paddler is organizing a cleanup there Saturday. Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 7, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Oct. 7, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News So maybe I'm a bit OCD, but after reading that the drought at Emigrant Lake has exposed "old spark plugs, brakes, other debris, remnants of old pipe, gurgling petroleum, wine bottle, an old Capri tire, an eroded straw hat, bolts, washers, old Owen Illinois glass, metal tubing, brass door latches, and an old cold cream jar" (yes, very detailed article) where Klamath Junction used to be, I can't help but wonder: shouldn't the city or county or Parks and Rec be cleaning up this mess before it all gets covered with water again? And if there isn't room in the budget, maybe they could pull together a group of volunteers (sure, I'll join). It is a perfect opportunity this year! Marika M., email submission Well, Marika, it was interesting to see some of the items exposed by the lowest water level at Emigrant Lake in two decades, with the water down to 8 percent of full. Unfortunately, a lot of it was trash and not nearly as interesting as the remnants of Klamath Junction. Luckily, there's someone already willing to help clean up the mess. Phoenix paddleboarder Jack Tally is organizing a mass cleanup, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Whatever trash volunteers pick up will be disposed of in the landfill by the Jackson County Parks Department, which manages Emigrant Lake County Park. Some of the county staff plan to help out as well. Would-be volunteers should wear boots and gloves and bring trash bags, if you have some spares. Volunteers should start around the county park.   MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 7, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
