Jackson County reports 416 weekend COVID-19 cases By Vickie Aldous Updated: Feb 07, 2022 04:21 PM A A County records four new COVID-19-related deaths Jackson County reported 416 new COVID-19 cases Friday through Sunday, plus four more COVID-19-related deaths. Josephine County reported 133 new cases and no deaths over the weekend. Statewide, the Oregon Health Authority recorded 7,928 new cases and 30 more deaths Friday through Sunday. The number of people hospitalized with the virus around the state drifted down from 1,092 Friday to 1,072 Monday, according to OHA data. COVID-19 hospitalizations remain high but have dipped in almost all regions of the state recently, including the Rogue Valley. COVID-19 hospitalizations are still trending up slightly in the Eugene and Roseburg region, according to Monday hospitalization data. On Monday, hospitals were at 89.4% capacity in the Rogue Valley, 90.2% capacity in the Eugene and Roseburg region, 97.3% capacity in the Salem region, 95.7% capacity in the Portland region and 76.2% capacity in Central Oregon. Hospitals generally operate at 60%-70% capacity in normal times, according to health experts. Unvaccinated people make up the minority in Jackson and Josephine counties, but they represented 62% of COVID-19 patients in Asante’s three hospitals Monday and 68% of COVID-19 patients in intensive care. On Monday, one COVID-19 patient on a ventilator was unvaccinated and two on ventilators were vaccinated, Asante reported. Over the past 90 days, 84% of patients who died with the virus were unvaccinated, Asante said.
