Metcalf, manager of the local Fruit and Produce association, has quit the job. His resignation was presented several days ago, and was voluntary. It takes effect today. In the meantime, George Millner is looking after the association affairs pending the appointment of a new manager. Mr. Metcalf has held the position about six weeks, having succeeded C.A. Briggs early in the spring. He came here from Los Angeles, and for a time was an instructor at the Polytechnic school. Cordial Welcome to Bishop Sumner Bishop Sumner's reception at St. Mark's hall on Tuesday evening marked the close of his first visit to Medford and to St. Mark's church. A very excellent program added materially to the enjoyment of the evening, and the decorations were exceptionally effective and reflected credit upon the committee. The bishop met everyone, both the church members, and those not associated with St. Mark's, with the cordiality of an old friend, and carried away with him the high opinion and good will of all who were present. The bishop's visit to St. Mark's has meant a new impetus to the work of the church. By his co-operation and assistance, the congregation will be able in a short time to procure lots upon which to build a church. He further encouraged them by an offer of assistance later, conditional upon the activity and energy of the church workers, in building a church. His visit has given the work the greatest stimulus and hope that it has had for some years. No Frost in Valley Wednesday Night There was no frost in the valley Wednesday night, and orchardists were granted a respite from orchard heating. Frost was expected and predicted, and the fruitmen were prepared, but the temperature did not drop below the danger point. It is possible that Jack Frost will withdraw, and that the fires will not need to be lighted again this year. Such a consummation would be welcomed. The Rogue River Fruit & Produce association has eight cars of heating oil on the way for emergency purposes. Today is a perfect spring day, with bright sunshine and no wind.
