Man killed in stabbing near Ashland By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Sep 15, 2021 05:17 PM A A The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect in a fatal stabbing that occurred early Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Eagle Mill Road near Ashland. The incident was reported to emergency dispatch just before 2:15 a.m. Auriel Zipher Scattergood, 30, of Ashland, is being held in the Jackson County Jail without bail on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated animal abuse, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. The name of the victim is being withheld until authorities can notify relatives. Scattergood was apprehended by a group of law enforcement personnel that included Jackson County deputies and officers from Ashland, Talent and Phoenix. Members of the Jackson County Major Assault Investigation Unit are investigating this case. The victim’s dog was hurt during the incident, and it received emergency veterinary care. An employee at the animal care facility didn’t provide information about the animal’s condition, citing privacy concerns.
