Bestselling mystery writer pays a visit Carola Dunn, author of the Daisy Dalrymple mystery series at book signing Carola Dunn, bestselling mystery and romance writer, will be in town to speak and sign her newest book on Friday, Oct. 13. Dunn is the author of the popular mystery series that features the adventures of the intrepid Daisy Dalrymple. There are 12 books in the series which is set in England during the 1920s, a simpler and grander time. The loss of half a generation of men in the first Great War provided opportunities for women to challenge convention. Enter Daisy. Her courage and native intelligence get her through difficult situations and allow her to solve crimes. To those familiar with the sub-genres of mystery novels, Dunn's books are known as cozies: "blood doesn't fly in your face and dead bodies don't litter the literary landscape." Dunn's latest book "Gunpowder Plot," finds a pregnant Daisy enjoying the 1924 Guy Fawkes Day celebration at the estate of an old friend. The festivities are interrupted by a series of dead bodies. Advertisement Dunn was born in London and grew up in the little Buckinghamshire village of Jordans. She traveled widely and experimented with a variety of professions, including building construction and writing definitions for a dictionary of science and technology. She wrote her first book, a Regency romance, in 1979. Today, Dunn's Regency romances number more than 30, have been translated into a dozen languages and are now being reissued as e-books and in large print. Dunn wrote the first Daisy mystery in 1993.
