Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 22, 2005 Man jailed after fleeing crash with van on 140 A Washington man was arrested Thursday after allegedly sideswiping a van and attempting to escape police in a 27-foot motor home on Highway 140. Tommy K. Addington, 62, was traveling in the motor home when at about 6:18 p.m. it crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Chrysler van carrying two adults and a child, Oregon State Police said in a news release. The van’s driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the road. Addington fled the scene in his motor home, which was towing a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, OSP said. While en route to the crash, OSP troopers were given a description of the motor home. It was located a short time later by an OSP Fish and Game trooper who attempted to stop the motor home near the junction of Highways 62 and 234. Addington refused to stop and led troopers on a six-mile chase, OSP said. Addington eventually surrendered within the Shady Cove city limits, police said. The adult occupants in the van, who were from Klamath Falls, were not injured. A 9-year-old girl who was riding in the back seat suffered cuts and abrasions and was taken by Mercy Flights Ambulance to Providence Medford Medical Center, where she was treated and released, OSP said. Addington, of Vaughn, Wash., was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, felony hit and run, reckless driving and third-degree assault. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained late Friday on $20,000 bail. All occupants in the van were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, OSP said. OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by crews from Jackson County Fire District 8.
