Backed by many states and industry, the CPP imposes the first nationwide limits on CO2 pollution from electricity generation, providing new impetus for carbon-free energy sources such as wind, solar, and next-gen nuclear. Coal-fired electricity remains the greatest source of manmade CO2 and the single greatest threat to environment and climate stability. Although planned coal-fired power plant retirements are on the increase domestically, we won’t achieve needed environmental and carbon goals on that alone. Worldwide, one-third of all CO2 emissions come from burning coal. It’s a tough spiral, with global reliance on electric power, but the consequences of inaction are staggering social costs in the form of health and habitat degradation. And surprise, surprise, the coal industry does not pay for the damage it causes. That bill is felt by billions worldwide in the form of reduced economic opportunities and degraded health, present and future. The CPP, properly implemented by the states, is a tipping point in how we pass on a viable planet. Lee Baldwin Ashland Loyalty is to money When John F. Kennedy, a Roman Catholic, ran for president in 1960, there was concern that his first allegiance would be to the Pope, not the U.S. Kennedy allayed that concern and won. He kept his word and served our nation. In 2015 we must ask whether the first allegiance of many of our members of Congress is to the prime minister of Israel, not the U.S. How else can we explain their opposition — cloaked in grossly false claims — to the agreement our president and other world leaders have signed with Iran to assure it won’t acquire nuclear weapons? Actually, there is a better explanation. Their real loyalty is to the campaign money that pandering to hawkish U.S. Zionists will bring. And the Republican presidential hopefuls are more narrowly focused — on the millions that one hawkish Zionist, Nevada casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, may give them. Some have even promised to make war on Iran as soon as they take office. This behavior isn’t in America’s interest, but the real problem isn’t the prime minister of Israel. From politics, sports of every kind, to dance, school functions — if there was a grandchild involved, the best fan they had was there. Is there a way to measure how good a man? How bout,Bill, Ed, Tiffany and Shelley to start. Ask the grandkids next. Ask the in-laws. Mr. Singler wouldn't want tears. He would tell you to go support your children and root for your grandkids, whatever they do, because who doesn't love to see their dad or grandpa right there, every time, cheering, supporting, loving — well done, sir, well done. There appear to be 10 dead cranes hanging from their backs and littering the ground around them. Did they really have to kill 10 cranes before they were willing to cross "kill cranes" off their bucket list?
