CRIME Man charged with felony after offering bribe during Shady Cove arrest By Thomas Moriarty Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Thomas Moriarty Mail Tribune Posted Oct. 1, 2014 @ 5:24 pm By Thomas Moriarty Mail Tribune Posted Oct. 1, 2014 @ 5:24 pm » Social News SHADY COVE — A 23-year-old man faces felony charges after he allegedly tried to bribe his way out of an arrest Tuesday night and then tried to call 911 on deputies when they wouldn’t take it. According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Spencer Barnett, no known address, is charged with bribe giving, resisting arrest and second-degree disorderly conduct. The bribe-giving charge is a Class B felony. According a probable cause statement filed in Jackson County Circuit Court, deputies around 9:50 p.m. responded to a report of two men being drunk and disorderly at the Chevron gas station in Shady Cove after a clerk refused to sell them alcohol.  When a deputy handcuffed Barnett to take him to detox, the man allegedly said he was a “juggalo” and would end the deputy's career. After a deputy managed to get him into handcuffs and placed in a vehicle, Barnett allegedly offered the deputy $70 from his upcoming Social Security check for a ride home. "The money is as good as yours, if you take me home," he allegedly said. When the deputy wouldn’t take the bribe, Barnett tried to pull out his phone to call 911 but dropped it out of the car, according to the affidavit.
