Jackson County logs 226 COVID-19 cases, two deaths over weekend By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Sep 20, 2021 05:07 PM A A Jackson County reported 226 new COVID-19 cases and two more COVID-19-related deaths over the weekend. The report on cases and deaths covered Friday through Sunday. The Jackson County residents who died were a 57-year-old woman with underlying conditions and an 81-year-old man with underlying conditions. Both passed away at Providence Medford Medical Center. Statewide, Oregon recorded 3,359 new COVID-19 cases and 25 more deaths from Friday through Sunday. COVID-19 cases started surging in the Rogue Valley this summer but numbers have begun to drop. For the week of Sept. 12-18, Jackson County Public Health reported 734 new COVID-19 cases, a 30% decrease from the preceding week. On Monday, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Jackson and Josephine counties was 131, with 42 of those patients in intensive care. Twenty-two COVID-19 patients were on ventilators, according to the Oregon Health Authority. Hospitalizations peaked Sept. 1 with 223 COVID-19 patients in Jackson and Josephine counties. The highest number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care was 65 Sept. 3. The peak for COVID-19 patients on ventilators was 35 Sept. 8, OHA hospitalization data show.
