Kinsman strikes sting HV, 42-0 MURPHY � Henley�s Brian Kinsman put Hidden Valley in a hole from the outset and led the Hornets to a 42-0 romp in Skyline Conference football Friday. The game pitted the past three conference champions. Kinsman broke long scoring plays the first two times sixth-ranked Henley touched the ball. The 5-foot-8, 160-pound junior returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. After Hidden Valley (2-2, 1-1 Sky) was forced to punt at the end of a six-play drive, Kinsman went 74 yards on Henley�s first play from scrimmage to give the Hornets a 12-0 lead with 8:11 remaining in the first quarter. Junior Kirk Cunningham matched Kinsman�s explosiveness with a 76-yard scoring gallop with eight minutes to go in the second quarter. The Hornets (4-0, 2-0 Sky) struck through the air less than four minutes later when quarterback Frank Gauntz connected with Michael Nunes for a 26-yard TD pass. Gauntz added a 1-yard scoring run to give Henley a 35-0 lead with only 31 seconds left before intermission. Henley, the defending conference champion, ran for 364 yards � 115 on five carries by Mike Perpich � and passed for 136. Perpich also excelled on the defensive line as Henley limited the 1997 and 1998 Skyline champions to 147 total yards. The Mustangs gained 106 yards on the ground, with Nick Mason leading the way with 60. Kessler scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter and led the Pirates ground attack with 65 yards on 13 carries. Dawson finished the Pirates� scoring with 20-yard TD pass to Landon Rhodes in the fourth quarter. Dawson was 10 of 17 for 128 yards passing. Cody Rombach scored from 6 yards to give the Pirates a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Phoenix (2-2, 1-1 Skyline) had been held to just one touchdown in each of its first three games. North Valley (2-2, 0-2 Sky) surprised the host squad by taking a 14-0 lead on two first-quarter touchdowns. The Knights capitalized on a fumble recovery on the Vikings� 20-yard line on the first play of the game. Jesse Stumbo completed the five-play drive with a 1-yard TD run. Cole Parmelee hauled in a 56-yard scoring pass from quarterback Aaron Phelps to give North Valley a two-touchdown lead with 1:22 left in the first quarter. Quirke tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Landyn Trammell to account for the other Mazama scores. Trammell led the Viking offense with 139 yards rushing on 14 carries and caught three passes for 57 yards Stumbo was responsible for 77 of North Valley�s 191 rushing yards.
