WEATHER Valley floor could see snow Temperatures could drop into the teens Comment By Damian Mann Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Damian Mann Mail Tribune Posted Dec. 27, 2014 @ 3:17 pm By Damian Mann Mail Tribune Posted Dec. 27, 2014 @ 3:17 pm » Social News A dusting of snow in the Medford area could surprise local residents as a couple of cold fronts make their way through the valley by Tuesday. “We could have a little bit of snow on the valley floor,” said John Lovegrove, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Medford. “As far as it sticking, that is a bit more up in the air.” Mount Ashland could get 3 to 4 inches Sunday night and an additional 6 inches by Tuesday morning, which would be welcome for the resort that just opened for business last Friday. After Tuesday, the system should clear out, and another storm could come to the valley toward the weekend, but Lovegrove said it is likely to pass to the north of this area. Temperatures were expected to dip down to 28 degrees Sunday night, but drop to a more frigid 21 degrees by Monday night. Freezing fog could hit the area Tuesday night when temperatures could drop to 17 degrees. Areas of freezing fog could linger through the week, but temperatures are expected to creep up slightly. Daytime temperatures over the next two days could hover in the 30s, warming up to the 40s by the week’s end. Over the next two weeks, though, long-range forecasts indicate a warmer and wetter series of storm systems, which could spell trouble for the Mount Ashland resort, which didn’t open last year because of a lack of snow on local mountains. So far this year, Medford has gotten more than its normal share of rainfall. For the water year, which begins Sept. 1, 8.75 inches have fallen compared with the normal 7.71. Last year, only 4.44 inches of rain had fallen by Dec. 26. Since Jan. 1, 20.14 inches of rain has hit the valley floor compared with the normal 17.86.
