Head-on crash prompts freeway closure near Ashland By Nick Morgan Updated: Aug 24, 2021 07:11 AM A A Southbound Interstate 5 is closed near Ashland as police investigate the circumstances of a crash that possibly involved a wrong-way driver. The head-on crash was first reported at 5:41 a.m. Tuesday between mileposts 15 and 16, according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon records and a release issued by the Oregon Department of Transportation. ODOT is closing southbound freeway traffic at Exit 19 for what’s expected to be a “lengthy” Oregon State Police investigation into the crash, and a detour is in place, according to the release and the latest TripCheck update.
