The visiting Eagles trounced South Medford, 71-0, Wednesday in the Southern Oregon Conference-opener for both squads. Andrew Hook (103 pounds), J.P. Sheile (119), Stephen Price (135), Daniel Rullamas (145), Tyson Nelson (171), Chris Wilson (189), Juan Knapp (215) and Nick Smith (275) posted pins to fuel the Eagles. Ken Thompson, South’s second-year head coach, was encouraged despite the lopsided defeat. "We are a very young team that works very hard," Thompson said. The Grizzlies won the boys meet with 93 points, followed by South Medford (40) and Crater (34). The Ashland girls scored 81 points to edge South Medford (59) and Crater (30). Geoff Berteau, Arron Nelson and Travis Bishop each posted two individual victories for Ashland’s boys, while Michelle Smith won two events for the Grizz girls team. South Medford’s Lynea Loeffler was the only other competitor to win two events. Elsewhere, the North Medford boys and girls swept a three-way dual with Eagle Point and Klamath Union.
