"The cause of death is unknown at this time and identification is pending," Daniel told the Daily Courier. The body was reported about noon near Store Gulch, a remote area on the Illinois River about nine or 10 miles north of Selma. Daniel said the county Search and Rescue team was called out to recover the body, primarily due to the ruggedness of the location. The body was then turned over to Oregon State Police for further investigation. Daniel personally called the Daily Courier to refute rumors that quickly blew up on social media that the body had been decapitated and gutted. "This was a standard recovery at this point," he said. It was the second body found in a local river in as many days in Josephine County, after a man walkings his dogs Friday found a body in the Rogue River west of Grants Pass. That body has since been identified as the remains of 26-year-old man named Cory Maleksi, who had been missing and presumed drowned after his kayak apparently capsized on the river a month ago.
