They are sharing details in hopes that the public can help crack the case. Police released a composite drawing of the robber who pointed a gun at the shop’s clerk. The gunman is white with dirty-blond hair and striking blue eyes. In police reports, the clerk described him as attractive, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 125 to 135 pounds. He appears to be between 19 and 24 years old and was wearing a black ski jacket with big shiny buttons, said Medford police detective Bill Ford. The second suspect is a white man in his early 20s with dark, curly, collar-length hair and brown eyes. He is between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs between 160 and 200 pounds. He has heavy acne and both ears are pierced. He wore a black, zip-up ski jacket with small turquoise lettering on the front, Ford said. A police artist is still working on a composite sketch of this suspect. The two men entered the Subway shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday and ordered sandwiches, Ford said. Then, the blond man brandished a gun wrapped in a paper bag at the restaurant’s lone employee — a 24-year-old woman — and demanded money. The gunman forced the clerk to lie down in a back room, while the second suspect stood watch near the restaurant’s front door. The gunman took money from the till and left the restaurant. The lookout was still in the restaurant when a Medford woman and her teenage son came in to order sandwiches. The man put on a Subway visor, then said his co-worker had left to get change at the nearby Castle Superstore. After saying he had to go check on his co-worker, he left and didn’t return, Ford said. The two customers waited in vain and eventually left for another Subway shop. The woman complained to employees there about the strange behavior of workers at the Biddle Road restaurant, but employees dismissed the incident as fellow workers just fooling around, Ford said. When the customers read about the robbery in the newspaper the next day, they contacted police, he said. The witnesses also reported seeing an older black Toyota hatchback with tinted windows leaving the area, Ford said. Earlier in the evening, the clerk had seen the dark-haired suspect near a light-colored, newer mid-sized sedan. This was the fifth robbery at the Biddle Road Subway in the past 2 years. After a robbery this summer, a surveillance camera was installed, but it was off Sunday because of technical difficulties, Ford said. In 2001, the latest year statistics are available, Medford police had 33 reports of robberies.
