The judge is very much interested in this work and can give you facts that will make you sit up and take notice. Dr. Hill will speak at the same place on "Charity Work." If you think the doctor had a picnic last winter, come and hear him. Dr. Carstens will give us new food for thought on the social center problem. You are certainly interested in one of the three and they are all live issues before the people. Don't be a dead one. Take an active interest in the things of today. Remember the time and place. A Demorest contest will be held in the Baptist church on Wednesday evening, September, 22, at 8 o'clcok. The contestants are young people of our town and should be encouraged in this line of study. No admission. FORMER MAYOR OF ASHLAND PASSES W.B. Colton died Friday night at a hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 75 years. Mr. Colton, who is well known and remembered in Ashland, had been living in Gardena, Calif., for the past fourteen years, and for the fifteen years previous lived in Ashland on the property now known as the Albert Johnson place. He was in the abstract business during the last years of his residence here and was mayor of the city of Ashland for two years. He leaves a wife and three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Whited of this city, Mrs. Lora Fallis of Gardena and Mrs. Charlotte Shideler of Los Angeles. The funeral is being held in Gardena today. Mr. Colton was known and respected throughout southern Oregon as a man of absolutely steadfast principles and the highest plane of character. FIRST SESSION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS MEET WEDENSDAY Of special interest to the women of the valley are the meetings of the First District Federation of Women's Clubs to be held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. Tomorrow morning's sessions will be filled with registration of delegates, reports of committees, club's reports and other matters incident to organization. Wednesday afternoon W.G. Steel, superintendent of Crater Lake National park, will speak on "The Economic and Ethical Values of National Parks."
