July 2015 turned out to be Medford's third-hottest July on record, topped only by 2014 and 2013, according to the National Weather Service. "The last three Julys are the three hottest Julys on record, dating back to 1911," National Weather Service meteorologist Charles Smith said. Unlike the previous two years, it wasn't a run of particularly hot weather that put the month into the dubious list of summer scorchers for the Rogue Valley, according to NWS statistics. The average high temperature for this past July was 94 degrees, well under last year's record of 96.9 degrees and actually coming in as the 20th hottest July in Medford since 1911, if only high temperatures are considered, according to the Weather Service. It's in the category of average temperature that this past month was exceptional, Smith says. Warm nights pushed this past July's average daily temperature to 78.4 degrees, bested only by the blistering 79.9 degrees last year and the 78.9 degrees recorded in 2013, NWS data shows.
