Investigators said the theft was reported at about 7 a.m. Monday morning at a construction site at the dead end of Hospitality Way, which is off Ellendale Drive. Crews showed up to find a trove of power equipment missing, including drills, reciprocating saws, rotary hammers and nail guns. Detectives said the amount of tools stolen from the site would require a vehicle, possibly even a trailer. "Undoubtedly," Medford police Detective Sgt. Brent Mak said. "I think it's way too much to carry by hand." None of the stolen equipment has been recovered yet. Tools are a current hot ticket item for thieves, as they can be sold or traded quickly for cash or drugs, police said. On New Year's Day, $10,000 worth of Snap-on tools were reported stolen from Real Performance Automotive in the 700 block of Grape Street, where suspects forced entry through a rear door. Detectives got a report about a burglary next door at ZZ Electric about a month later, though it also was first discovered New Year's Day. In that case, several Stihl brand power tools were stolen, along with scuba equipment and electronics. Thieves also broke into a company truck for Cornwell Tools, parked in a driveway in the 1500 block of North Phoenix Road, on New Year's Day. In that case, they made off with $25,000 worth of equipment. None of the cases have been closed. Police recommend applying unique identification to tools, such as engraved initials or applied numbers, so they are easier to spot.
