He was born to Mahlon and Laura Sprague July 2, 1925 in Portland, Ore. The family moved to Medford, Ore. in 1927. Mahlon joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 before finishing high school. He was stationed in Adak, Alaska. After the war he returned to Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1947. He worked many years at Medply plywood mill. Afterward he started his own landscaping business. He enjoyed outdoor activities including hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing. Mahlon became a Christian at age 29. He was an active member of the Apostolic Faith Church. He participated in the choir, served as an usher, and for many years maintained the church sign board on the corner of 3rd and Central. He loved reading the Bible and spent much time in prayer. He married Carmella Betty James October 12, 1957. They were married 53 years until her death in 2011. He is survived by his four children, Mark, Diane, Robert, and Rebecca; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Kinney; and three brothers, John, Charles, and Richard Sprague. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Sprague. A service to celebrate his life is planned for 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Apostolic Faith Church, 285 Sunrise Ave., Medford. Viewing is from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Conger-Morris, Medford. The family thanks the caregivers at Skylark Memory Care, Ashland, Ore. for their excellent care.
