A Central Point hiker and his dog who had been missing since June 21 were found alive Friday in Northern California. Family members found David Shaw Ura, 64, in the Tehama County wilderness near Red Bluff, according to Tehama County Sheriff’s Detective Rob Bakken. A rescue team organized by family members had looked south while a search-and-rescue team looked north. Family found him Friday morning near an area known as Cold Springs, south of the Bigfoot Trail, according to Bakken. Aerial searches and search-and-rescue crews had focused north of the trail, Bakken said. “As luck would have it, they happened across him,” Bakken said. Ura began hiking the Bigfoot Trail June 15 at the Ides Cove trailhead in far western Tehama County and was scheduled to meet his son and daughter June 21, at Hayfork in Tehama County, about 40 miles from the start. Ura, who planned to hike all the way to Crescent City, was reported missing Tuesday after he failed to appear at the checkpoint. He had provisions for five days. Details were not immediately available on what caused Ura to miss the rendezvous, or whether he suffered any injuries.
