The Grants Pass senior’s hot bat propelled the Cavemen to an 8-6 and 3-0 doubleheader sweep over the Pelicans (3-22, 2-16 SOC). In the opener, Mills had a pair of two-run home runs and a two-run single. In the nightcap, Mills added an RBI single. Grants Pass pitcher Nolan Morgan had only allowed one-hit and struck out eight going into the seventh inning. But the Pels erupted for five runs in the final frame to make things interesting. "Until the seventh inning, Nolan (Morgan) was pretty much in control," said Grants Pass coach Stacy Morgan, uncle of the Caveman pitcher. "In the seventh, we came unglued. (Nolan Morgan) either ran out of gas or lost focus." Advertisement Junior pitcher Ben Murray sustained his concentration in the second game with a two-hit shutout. Murray didn’t allow a hit until Chris Anderson’s single to open the sixth. "(Murray) was throwing strikes and getting ahead of people," said the Grants Pass coach. The Cavemen (12-9, 12-6 SOC) used a leadoff single by Craig Dolmage and Patrick Allen’s RBI fielder’s choice and a run-scoring single by Steve Draper to score twice in the third. Allen doubled and Mills delivered an RBI single in the fifth for the Cavemen’s final run.
