Luzny sparks North in rout of Cougars Apr 10, 2014 12:00 AM A A North Medford combined 13 hits with 13 walks allowed by Mountain View to run away with the nonconference baseball game Wednesday at North Medford High. The Black Tornado used a seven-run fourth inning to enforce the 10-run mercy rule and capped things off with a perfect fifth inning to upend the Class 5A Cougars 19-6. All 19 runs were scored with two outs as North Medford improved to 9-1. Isaiah Luzny was the big hitter of the day for the Black Tornado, going 3-for-4 with two runs and six RBIs. Jared Evans went 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBIs, Troy Fowler was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs and Austin Zavala 2-for-4 with two runs to contribute to the rout. Colton Westfall picked up the pitching victory despite not being at his best, with the junior right-hander allowing six runs — two earned — and four hits with five walks and four strikeouts through 32/3 innings. Relief pitcher Jordan Ragan was steady to help nail down the victory, allowing no hits with one walk and one strikeout to end the game in his 11/3 innings on the mound. Mountain View (2-6) scored twice in the top of the first but North Medford answered with four runs in each of the first three innings to build a comfortable advantage in the five-inning contest.
