God created all people be they white, black or red and all should be respected and treated with goodness and kindness. It is so shameful for such an event as this to happen here in America. It would seem we have reverted in our racism back 40 or 60 years! That is so sad. I am so glad that as a child raised in Florida some 60 to 70 years ago my parents taught us to respect all races and I recall that when my high school bus would pass the black high school I would wonder why we had to have two separate high schools, it should never have been so even back in those days! Wake up, America, and be the country you should be! Jeannie Gladson Medford Follow your heart In response to James Farmer's letter, "Legacy of deceit": When the Supreme Court outlawed prayer and Bible reading in schools, they should have set up religions studies in all public schools. Better to be informed than at war. Labels separate. A polemical letter, urging an increase of opposites, steers humanity away from harmony using fear and anxiety as oxen. We don't have to fight about issues. Just follow your heart. Jill Iles Talent Give fawns a chance I am writing this letter today out of compassion, and real concern for the four new fawns (deer) that were born 10 days ago in the area of Hillcrest and Stanford. They are now becoming active and have been seen playing and frolicking like all young ones do. Every year there are several fawns killed in this vicinity because people are speeding and/or otherwise not paying attention to their surroundings. Please give these little critters a chance to grow up and raise families of their own. L. Johnson Medford 'Free trade' myth The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and presidential "fast track" authority debate has been amid a fas-moving and confusing process. Rather than predicting what’s next, I will describe some present realities. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed during the Clinton administration. At that time, we could walk into any common retailer and buy American-made goods. In fact, I still own a number of these because they are so durable; names like Levis, Hanes, Dexter, Black & Decker. Each of these articles represents American jobs. So did the American diesel locomotives seen each day transporting these goods and the (mainly) American built vehicles people drove. Our homes, buildings and public infrastructure were constructed with U.S. components. Now, it’s very difficult to find our own goods anywhere. Entire domestic industries have been eradicated because of "free trade." So have millions of living-wage American jobs. TPP will enhance the scope of the damage we have already incurred through NAFTA. Its "special provisions" will also enable multinationals to undermine our sovereign laws if they "interfere" with profitability, including laws like GMO and smoking bans. TPP is a bipartisan gift to the elite and can only weaken our nation.
