Robert Borba, 28, who while on horseback lassoed a bike thief at the Eagle Point Walmart on June 10, will be featured on the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey show. Borba's story and demonstrations of his lassoing skills will be featured in the "Good News" segment of Harvey's country-themed episode, which airs locally at 9 a.m. Thursday on KMVU, Fox 26, according to a release issued by the show. "He's definitely one of the good guys, folks," Harvey says before introducing Borba, who arrives on stage on horseback. Although the horse has a passing resemblance to Borba's horse, Long John, the show's publicist Trisha Miller said Borba's horse wasn't flown to the Windy City for the taping. The studio instead provided a horse. The show flew Borba and his wife, Alyssa, to Chicago for the show's taping Aug. 31. Borba's appearance begins with him entering the stage on horseback and includes a jovial demonstration of how Borba lassoed the bike thief, this time roping a clipboard-wielding staff member of the show. Following the June 10 citizen's arrest that went viral, the thief, Victorino Arellano-Sanchez, told Eagle Point police Sgt. Darin May that he took the bike because his had a flat tire and he needed a new one to get to San Francisco, according to court documents. In previous reports, May described Arellano-Sanchez as a transient from the Seattle area. The bike Arellano-Sanchez stole was valued at $119. Borba, who was loading supplies in his truck in the parking lot that day as he prepared to head out to brand cattle, heard a woman calling out that a bicycle had been stolen. Borba quickly brought out Long John, which he'd brought to help him with the cattle, from the back of his trailer. The cowboy and his horse then chased after Arellano-Sanchez as he struggled with the gears, ditched the bike and started running on foot. Borba said he grabbed his rope and let it fly, lassoing the man around his legs and causing him to tumble to the ground, dragging him like a roped cow to the end of the parking lot. Arellano-Sanchez was sentenced to five days in the Jackson County Jail and 11 months of probation after he pleaded guilty Aug. 1 to a misdemeanor charge of second-degree theft.
