Bodies may be missing couple Authorities can't confirm identities By PETER WONG Two bodies found in a pickup over the weekend near Lake of the Woods may be those of a White City couple reported missing about six months ago. Autopsies under way at the Oregon State Police crime laboratory in Medford will determine who they were and how they died. "We are investigating it as foul play," Marci Adkisson, a Klamath County deputy district attorney, said Monday. "But at this point, we don't have any indication there might be a homicide." The bodies were of a man and woman, the pickup was registered to Jerry and Pamela Middleton, and they were found by snowmobilers Saturday near a gravel pit eight miles off Dead Indian Road inside Klamath County. Though there was speculation that the bodies were the Middletons, officials said they had confirmed nothing Monday. Adkisson said OSP troopers and Klamath County sheriff's deputies hoped to get some clues as early as today from an inspection of the truck and autopsy results. The sheriff's office has assigned a detective to the case but referred all inquiries to the district attorney. Eight members of Jackson County Search and Rescue took part in the recovery of the truck and bodies. "Klamath County invited us to participate because their crews were finishing up the (Derrick Engbretson) search," Sgt. Ken Curtis said in reference to a search that failed to turn up an 8-year-old boy missing near Rocky Point. In California, Siskiyou County sheriff's deputies said Jerry and Pamela Middleton were last seen June 20, when they were visiting his parents and his son near Mount Shasta and said they would sleep on the front lawn that night. The next morning, deputies said, they and their pickup were gone. Jerry Lewis Middleton and Pamela Joyce Cunningham obtained a marriage license in Jackson County in June 1997, a year before their disappearance. Jerry Middleton, 44, and Pamela Middleton, 35, moved to White City from Mount Shasta several years ago. But Siskiyou County deputies said they did not return home or to work here.
