The 12th annual Eagle Watch, sponsored in part by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, will include featured speakers, activities and organized viewing sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. that Sunday. Along with the Klamath Basin, Lake Billy Chinook is a winter hot-spot for bald eagles that head to Oregon from Washington and Canada. Many of the events and presentations will be at the Round Butte Overlook Park at this central Oregon lake. The event comes as the federal government is mulling a petition to remove bald eagles from protection under the federal Endangered Species Act. Presentations on that proposal will be conducted at the park. Curtis Mix, of Medford, will offer a slide show on his trip to Yellowstone, in which he fished several rivers there. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Red Lion Hotel, 200 N. Riverside Ave. After the one-hour "Wet Fly" no-host bar, dinner will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the club's regular meeting, raffle and program. Guests are welcome. Three chapters of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep each pledged $3,000 this week toward the reward fund, pushing it to $8,250. Four hunters discovered the ram's headless body Jan. 22 in the areas east of the Owyhee Reservoir, according to the Oregon State Police. Troopers from the OSP Fish and Wildlife Division hope to bring in a wildlife forensics expert to help find any evidence that could move the case forward, police said. Anyone with information on the incident was urged to call state police at 541-889-6469. The case is getting highlighted through the Turn In Poachers, or TIP, program run by the Medford-based OHA. The Oregon Hunters Association has pledged $4,000 toward the reward fund. The rest comes from other FNAWS chapter and the group Backcountry Hunters and Anglers.
