Your supposed reason was that people could travel faster and safer in remote areas. You completely ignored the adverse environmental impact of increased carbon pollution and the consequential increase in global temperatures resulting from increased speeds. The vast majority of climate scientists are extremely concerned about the impact of global warming on the ability of the current inhabitants of planet earth to remain alive on a planet with a drastically changed environment. To prevent this disaster we need to act now to avoid reaching the tipping point after which we cannot prevent the eventual disaster to us and our fellow creatures on earth. How can you choose to sacrifice the earth’s ecosystem, including all humans, just to increase vehicle speed? Seldom Gold Hill Calling off police dogs I'm so tired of all the bad publicity the police are getting, and now they're picking on the dogs. Seems to me the dogs were brought on for the purpose of finding drugs and helping bring down criminals. I realize their are some bad police, they are human after all. But it seems to me all of the laws anymore are for the criminal. The police have more laws going against them in arrest than what they were meant to do, which is to catch the criminals. The police have their hands tied because of all the laws. What are they suppose to do, find someone standing over a body with a bloody knife and a witness and let the guy go? Or their dog smells drugs and let the guy go because they have to sit there longer after getting the ticket? If they didn't have drugs in the car they would have nothing to worry about. If I get stopped I'd say bring the dog on, I like to watch them work. Does it tell anybody anything when the laws are all for the criminals? Who's getting the money for making all these laws? Judy Westcott Talent Thanks for help I'm a physically disabled Christian and in March came up short on money to pay rent. Not having a church I was attending at the time (I had been researching for one), I had no brethren to help me. I called charities and around 15 churches in the Medford area but was turned down and one charity voided its pledge when I couldn't come up with other pledges for the full rent. Finally, Eastwood Baptist Church came to my aid. Pastor Randolph Miller graciously authorized a check for $200 and Sue Becker, the church secretary, also prayed with me. I thank them for having helped me being able to apply the money toward my rent. (Matthew 25:40: The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.') Karin Malinowski Medford Senate Bill 941 Arrogance, tyranny and ideology seem to be the compelling forces controlling the Oregon Democratic Party, while it fights against the rights of honest citizens. For weeks, despite overwhelming opposition by truthful, law-abiding Oregonians, and supported by huge amounts of out-of-state cash from Michael Bloomberg, perpetually protected by pistol-packing personnel, the Democratic Legislature has been pushing a bill, based on manufactured "facts" and outright distortions, that will turn ordinary actions of honest citizens into felonies. Senate Bill 941 will make the short-term, temporary loaning of a firearm to a friend or relative a felony unless the two people involved register the "transfer" at a local federal firearms licensee, then transfer it back. Sen. Floyd Prozanski, the originator of the bill, who appears to work more for the criminal defense attorneys than the citizens, and handles prosecutions in a municipal court, admits his bill will have no effect on the ability of criminals to get firearms. Sen. Alan Bates, his loyal follower and never a champion of individuals' rights, is supporting this encroachment on the Second Amendment. Why are these Democrats so opposed to Americans enjoying the benefits of a free society? Which of the Bill of Rights do these people support?
