Habitat for Humanity volunteers raise walls and hope for Medford family ... Gold Hill residents say city dawdled as streets flooded ... SINCE YOU ASKED Since You Asked: Disc golf course planned for Chrissy Park ... in distant future Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 12, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 12, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News After some research into the lack of disc golf courses in Medford, I stumbled upon a promising Since You Asked article from July 11, 2011, which discussed the use of Chrissy Park as a disc golf course. I was unable to find any further information regarding courses or the use of that land more recent than that. Has the parks department abandoned or forgotten this project? — Benjamin H., voicemail Benjamin, the Medford Parks and Recreation Department still intends to put a disc golf course in Chrissy Park, but don’t hold your breath. Development of the 160-acre park off Cherry Lane is included in the city of Medford’s capital improvement plan but is still about a decade out, according to Parks and Recreation Director Brian Sjothun. The land, donated to the city in 1997, is situated outside city limits and is about two to three years away from being included in the city’s urban growth boundary, Sjothun said. Medford has not had a disc golf course since 2008 when city officials decided to close the Holmes Park course after receiving numerous calls from neighbors in that area complaining about noise levels, foul language, urination and other problems on the course. Benjamin, Sjothun recommended that you visit www.playmedford.com and fill out the 2015 Community Survey, which the parks department uses to make its Leisure Services Plan. And Benjamin, while you’re waiting for a disc golf course at Chrissy Park, you might check out the course at the Gold Hill Sports Park or try your hand at tennis or ultimate Frisbee.
