News briefs Highway crash kills Medford woman BUTTE FALLS -- A Medford woman was killed early Sunday after a crash on Butte Falls Highway. Sandra Lynn Jones, 33, was driving east when she lost control of her pickup truck on a corner four miles up the highway just before 3 a.m. Sunday. Her car went into the ditch and rolled numerous times. She was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. No one else was in the vehicle. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the crash and no further details were available Sunday night. Deputies said they do not believe ice was a factor in the accident but had not determined the cause. Broadcast highlights Ashland videos ASHLAND -- A one-hour live broadcast at 6 p.m. today on cable Channel 9 will showcase the work of Ashland High School video productions students. Viewers of "Ashland High Live" will be invited to call in and vote for their favorite music video. A $30 gift certificate from Musichead will be awarded to the student producers of the evening's most popular video. Man charged with hit-run driving ASHLAND -- A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday after wrecking his vehicle and leaving an injured passenger behind. Daniel Chris Loe was driving on North Mountain Avenue near the intersection of East Hersey Street when he apparently missed a turn and his vehicle went off an embankment at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Ashland police said. A passenger, 21-year-old Keith Cook of Phoenix, suffered minor injuries. Police arrived and found Cook but could not find the driver. Loe was later found at his home and arrested. Cook was treated and released at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. Loe, of 320 Independence Circle in Phoenix, was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence of intoxicants and furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was lodged in the Jackson County jail on $1,019,000 bail. Providence to offer class on pain Providence Medford Medical Center will hold a free "Pain Management in the Terminal Patient" class from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Medical Center's Mary Norbert Hall. Jim Elder, registered pharmacist, will discuss new drugs being used for pain and terminal pain management. Drugs used for specific pain, the basics of narcotic analgesics and tolerance vs. addiction issues also will be covered. Three libraries to close temporarily Three library branches will be closed this week as new computer systems are installed. The following libraries will be closed on the dates indicated: Applegate Branch will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, and reopen Monday, Jan. 31. Butte Falls Branch will be closed Thursday and Friday, and reopen Monday, Jan. 31. Prospect Branch will be closed Friday and reopen Monday, Jan. 31.
