PUBLIC SAFETY Quick response stops Shady Cove brush fire at an acre Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted Aug. 17, 2016 at 3:04 PM Updated Aug 17, 2016 at 5:27 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted Aug. 17, 2016 at 3:04 PM Updated Aug 17, 2016 at 5:27 PM » Social News A brush fire crept to within a stone's throw of a trailer park just north of Shady Cove before firefighters contained it Wednesday afternoon. The fire started near 42 Meadow Lane, just west of the Rogue River, at 1:30 p.m., said Melissa Cano, Oregon Department of Forestry public information officer. Flames burned through clumps of blackberries before leaping to tall, dry brush nearby. By the time crews contained the fire, Cano said, the flames were just yards away from a trailer park. No evacuations of homes were ordered, and no injuries were reported. ODF responded with six engines and a helicopter, but sent back two engines. Jackson County Fire District 3 and Jackson County Fire District 4 also responded with multiple engines. Crews had the fire contained just before 2 p.m. The cause is under investigation. On Monday, ODF declared the 1.8 million acres of public and private lands it protects in Jackson and Josephine counties under "extreme" fire danger, meaning use of power-driven and spark-emitting equipment is forbidden until further notice. Temperatures of up to 107 degrees are expected by week's end. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected]. Follow him at www.twitter.com/ryanpfeil .
