The Comets rode the pitching arm of Janelle Cristofaro and a 24-hit explosion at the plate to sweep Eagle Point, 11-3 and 5-0. Shelamer picked up a pair of hits and two RBIs in each game and was on base all seven plate appearances. "(Shelamer) had an unbelievable day," Crater coach Chris Arnold said. "She was so intense in each at-bat to make things happen." Cristofaro struck out seven and walked two in the opener, then came back with six shutout innings of one-hit ball in Game 2. Advertisement "Janelle is such a fierce competitor," said Arnold. "She’s smart as a pitcher and thinks ahead. She’s doing a better job mixing speeds and locations than earlier on." In the opener, the Comets (12-3, 4-2 SOC) jumped on Eagle Point ace Kelsey Heider for four runs in the first inning. Susan Winningham opened with a bunt single, Cristofaro smacked an RBI double, Tyler Sutherland and Kirstin Davidson provided RBI singles and Davidson scored when Shelamer reached on an error. The Eagles (10-4, 2-4 SOC) got to Cristofaro for two runs in the fourth when they bunched together three of their six hits. Heider singled, Shannon Richardson tripled and Ashley Hartman singled to account for the runs. Crater padded its lead with six runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Staci Bauer’s two-run, bases-loaded single. Sutherland and Cristofaro collected three hits each for the Comets, while Shelamer, Winningham and Bauer added two hits apiece. Heider went 3-for-4 for Eagle Point. In Game 2, Crater scored what proved to be the winning run in the second inning when Davidson got on with a leadoff walk, moved to second on a ground out and scored on Shelamer’s single. The Comets added two runs in the fifth on Sutherland’s two-out, two-run double. In the sixth, Shelamer had an RBI single, then scored on an error. Richardson opened the second with a single for Eagle Point’s lone hit. Winningham had three hits for Crater in the nightcap, and Haley Hevern added two along with Shelamer. "We have a lot of different kids stepping up," said Arnold. "It’s difficult picking the lineup some time. But it’s a nice problem to have.
