LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, April 23 MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 23, 2015 @ 2:00 am Updated Apr 23, 2015 at 10:32 AM Posted Apr. 23, 2015 @ 2:00 am Updated Apr 23, 2015 at 10:32 AM » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2325,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> Gambling helps White City With the recent focus on a possible Medford casino, we’d like to shine a light on a local organization that already has gambling, but 100 percent of the profits go to help the community. Cascade Bingo is celebrating its 18th anniversary. Many know it as one of the largest bingo operations in Oregon, but they may not realize what happens to the dollars spent there. Cascade Bingo is owned and operated by the nonprofit White City Community Improvement Association. All the profits after expenses stay in White City and go toward community organizations, events, activities and special needs. WCCIA sponsored an Easter egg hunt and pancake breakfast on April 4, and gives grant money to Max Burns Memorial Scholarship funds, ACCESS Senior Outreach Programs, Kids Spree, Cascade Community Pool, swim lessons, new shoes for kids in need, diapers and baby wipes and much more. WCCIA feels confident locals will continue to patronize and play at Cascade Bingo knowing 100 pecent of the profits will stay local and help the community. So before you jump in the car to drive to a casino, consider playing local. You can still win amazing prizes while helping your community at the same time. Andrea Warfield, general manager White City Community Improvement Association Stand up for America "Control the food. Control the country." — Henry Kissinger Any person who thinks we are not facing an act of terrorism when our food is being adulterated, our soils compromised and our right to to know taken away is delusional or in the Food and Drug Administration. Any person who gives the green light to continuing these assaults on the citizenry should be tried for being anti-American, and that includes decision makers in Congress and the Senate. Linda Zigich Medford 'Mary Poppins' is awesome "Awesome" may be an overused expression, but in the case of the five-star production of "Marry Poppins," awesome is right on! In Crater Drama's production, with instructor Matthew Reynolds directing, every person in cast and crew were remarkable! For a family evening of enjoyment, take in the hard work and dedication of our talented young people. The Fischer/Storms family Central Point Fanatical obsession I hope Michael Steely of Medford sent a copy of his April 13 letter to many more newspapers, the White House and our congressional representatives. Republicans' "fanatical obsession with making Obama fail" is truly the albatross that has kept this Congress from getting anything done. The United States cannot solve the problems in the Middle East by sending tanks, guns and soldiers, as those nations have been at war for thousands of years over religious differences they will never resolve. Obama knows this, and is trying to deal with Iran with diplomacy rather than war. Speaker Boehner does not understand this, as he is focused on seeing Obama fail. If he could get over it, and Congress could get back to seeking progressive change in this country, we would all be better off. Roberta Bull Medford Correction A letter by Gordon DeVos in Sunday's paper titled "Perilous days" contained some incorrect figures. The suicide plan crash killed the pilot and 149 people, and terrorists killed 148 students at a university in Africa.
