At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, a 16-year-old male juvenile allegedly assaulted a Butte Falls High School student on school grounds, according to reports from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. School staff reported to sheriff's deputies that the juvenile assailant flashed a 9mm pistol tucked in the waistband of his pants. The alleged assailant did not attend Butte Falls High School, according to reports, and no shots were fired during the incident. The victim of the reported assault had minor injuries and declined medical attention, officials said. The fight and the display of a firearm led to a lockdown at the high school and nearby Butte Falls Elementary for approximately 45 minutes. Although deputies were called, the assault suspect had fled by the time sheriff's deputies arrived. Deputies later received information the teen suspect was hiding in an attic at a home in the 300 block of Main Street, Butte Falls. Deputies took the teen into custody without incident at the location, and he was lodged at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Hall on misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault and menacing. A 9mm handgun found on the scene was taken into evidence.
