Eagle Point (14-11, 6-8 SOC) took advantage of four Roseburg errors in the seventh inning and Kelsey Heider recorded the pitching win during the Eagles’ 2-1 victory in Game 1. The Indians bounced back for a 3-1 triumph in the nightcap, but the damage had already been done. With the opening-game loss, Roseburg dropped into a three-way tie for third place with North Medford and Grants Pass. With the best record among the trio, the Indians opted to take the bye in the three-way playoff and will meet the winner of an elimination game between North and GP on Tuesday at Fagone Field. Advertisement Tuesday’s first game starts at 3 p.m., with the winner facing Roseburg at 5 p.m. The Game 2 winner will gain the SOC’s No. 3 seed to the state playoffs, with the loser going in as the No. 4 representative. "I just wish we would have taken care of business here," said Roseburg coach Tony Campos, whose team could have moved into a tie with South Medford for second with a sweep and hosted a seeding game with the Panthers. "We’re in (the state playoffs) and we’re happy about that. That was our goal at the beginning of the year." Heider and Roseburg pitcher Kim Posey dueled to a scoreless standoff heading into the seventh inning. Four errors later, however, the Eagles held a 2-0 advantage as Heider scored the go-ahead run. Posey, who had a perfect game going through five innings before yielding a sixth-inning single, brought Roseburg to within 2-1 with an RBI sacrifice fly. But Ali Paz followed with a liner that was snared by a leaping Eagle Point second baseman to end the game with the tying run at third. "The kids were a little down (following the game)," said Campos. "We put some pressure on (Eagle Point) but we just couldn’t get a base hit when we needed it." Brittny Kreshka led the Indians with three hits in as many at-bats, while Denay Martin went 2-for-3 in the nightcap. GRANTS PASS 4-5, ASHLAND 3-0 — At Ashland, Grants Pass junior Jamie Torgerson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the nightcap and scored the winning run in the opener in the ninth inning to help the Cavers pull into a three-way tie for third place in the SOC. Ashland’s Bailey Hasty highlighted a three-run, sixth inning for the Grizzlies (9-15, 1-13 SOC) with a two-run double, but GP (8-6 SOC) rallied back in the seventh as Torgerson reached on an error and scored on a triple by Ashley Franko. In the ninth, Torgerson was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a single by Iris Woodhead. Alysse Carlson and Hasty each had two hits in the opener for Ashland, while Aimee Jeska was 2-for-3 in Game 2. Skyline Conference ROGUE RIVER 6-2, ILLINOIS VALLEY 2-3 — At Rogue River, Illinois Valley’s Kim Hamilton and Rogue River’s Laura Jones had to settle for a split in the battle of Skyline Conference standout pitchers. The Cougars ended the Chieftains’ winning streak in exciting fashion in 11 innings on an inside-the-park home run by Jessica Ragsdale in the nightcap. Illinois Valley forced extra innings in the top of the seventh, when Tiffanee Griffin went from first to home on a throwing error. Rogue River (21-2, 19-1 Skyline) clinched the conference title by winning Game 1 of the doubleheader. Casey Hinkle went 3-for-3 with a run for the Knights (8-18, 7-13 Skyline). Mazama salvaged a split with five unearned runs in Game 2. Ashley Dinwiddie went 4-for-6 on the day for the Vikings.
