In a letter to Steve Walsh, chairman of law firm Maurice Blackman, the archdiocese’s business manager, Michael Digges, expressed “grave concern” over the firm’s position. Digges also allegedly tried to remind the companies of the “purchasing power” of Catholic Australians. SURVEY SAYS According to a recent Gallup poll, support for nontraditional candidates varies by religion. For example, 74 percent of all American adults said they would consider voting for a gay candidate. Meanwhile, only 62 percent of Protestant adults said they would vote for a gay candidate, as opposed to 82 percent of American Catholics. (Ninety-two percent of the religiously unaffiliated would consider voting for an gay candidate.)
