The Jackson County Sheriff's Department responded May 19 to a home on Meadow Lane, just north of Shady Cove, after the residents found a detached shop and garage had been burglarized overnight. The burglars broke in through a window and took a 1917 model Colt .45 revolver, ammunition, two gas-powered leaf blowers and two chainsaws. The total estimated value was close to $3,000, a sheriff's release said. Sheriff spokeswoman Lt. Christine Bronson said the residents reported the suspects tried to break into the home next, but that they were scared away. The residents "didn't realize they'd been burglarized until that morning," Bronson said. Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call either the sheriff's department tip line at 541-774-8333 or Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon at 1-800-850-0580. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and the filing of charges. Callers can remain anonymous.
