Martha Estelle Rice Koch Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 4, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted May. 4, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News June 20, 1929 - April 16, 2016 Martha Koch passed away April 16 2016 at Rogue Valley Manor surrounded by great-grandchildren, grandchildren, children, and friends. She was born June 20, 1929 to Winfield Canady Rice and Margaret Rush Johnson in Birmingham, Ala. Martha had a very full life, fueled by an adventurous spirit and strong work ethic. She lived in many places including Alabama, Illinois, Japan, the Virgin Islands, Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Africa, California, and Medford, Ore. She also had many careers, teaching children and young adults, was a real estate broker, and an occupational therapist. Mom loved the outdoors, from hiking and skiing in the mountains to swimming in the oceans and exploring the beaches and reefs. She also loved painting fine art, reading, and fly fishing. Volunteering was important to Martha and she participated in various groups such as the League of Women Voters and Casting for Recovery. Martha is survived by her daughter, Carrie Sue Young (Nick); son, Craig Rice Koch (Hilary); grandchildren, Lucas Rouge (Andrea), Jacque Hanson (Lane), Audrey Rouge, David Young, Jonathan Young, Naomi Young, Jerred Tuska, Corey Koch (Defne), Adrienne O'Brien (Casey), and Caity Widness (Brant); great-grandchildren, Lark Rouge, Otis Rouge, Dottie Rouge, Warner Hanson, Ava O'Brien, Connor O'Brien, and Sten Widness; and her nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; Winfield Rice; Eugene Koch; and son, John Koch. Thank you to all the wonderful people of Asante Hospice and the Rogue Valley Manor Residential Care Facility.
