Since You Asked: RVTD to take back use of Greyhound facility Oct 23, 2022 12:00 AM A A It seems Greyhound will be vacating the old train depot on Front Street, then to be occupied by Rogue Valley Transportation District for its business office. Were there ever any discussions for a more public use? — Robert Shand, via email Rogue Valley Transportation District will occupy the Greyhound building that looks like an old depot, according to Julie Brown, the district’s general manager. The building, built almost 15 years ago, always was owned by RVTD, but was used by Greyhound until the company gave up its lease around COVID-19. “RVTD decided to take the building and turn it into a transportation training building for people who are elderly, disabled or just curious on how to ride the bus,” Brown said. “Some of the biggest barriers to using public transportation is the barrier — if not understanding — (of) trip planning. Most people don’t know how to plan a trip or how to actually use the bus.” Brown noted RVTD already provides such training to nonprofits, schools and other community entities. A newer facility helped RVTD find a convenient space to conduct the training, Brown said. The plan is to open the building — known as the Mobility Training Center — in a year, depending on how quickly the retrofitting and design process goes. In addition to the Greyhound building, RVTD also purchased one of the Rogue Community College buildings across the street from it, where RVTD will house its administrative and planning department, Brown said. “Lots of changes in the next two years,” Brown said.
