Ira Edwards’ “A different great reset” (Aug. 3) suggests a number of “what if” questions. Respectfully, we’re past these red herring attempts to deny the changes to our weather and climate. Science need not tell us our climate is changing. Just look around: Lake Powell, Lake Mead, and Lake Shasta water levels are at historic lows never seen before, Southern California regularly experiences droughts lasting decades, and at home we see drier winters and an increase in fires each summer. And the short term forecast by many climate models show it will get worse before it gets better. Anyone under 50 years of age will likely be living with what we are seeing today (or worse) for the remainder of their lives. Climate deniers do us a disservice attempting to cast doubt just as tobacco companies attempted to cast doubt on the fact smoking causes cancer. To preserve our environment we must take action. The climate change issue isn’t about “me today.” It is about “us tomorrow.” Elect leaders with a plan for the future. John Littleton Medford Burned trees I read the front page article in the Sunday, July 31 edition with interest. Why don’t the tree services in the area cooperate to cut down the hazardous trees along Bear Creek as a payback to the residents of this area as a thank you for supporting their businesses? It’s the least they could do. Those burned trees are a danger to those using the path and an ugly reminder of the devastation and heartbreak of the Almeda fire. This service would help the community heal. Gayle Clason Medford
