The Mustangs paid the price. Josh Lorton belted a two-run double that helped fuel a six-run first inning as the Pirates crushed the Mustangs, 20-4, at Hagler-James Field. The game, which was moved to Talent because of poor field conditions in Murphy, was halted after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. "We lost both games Saturday by one run and we committed 10 errors," Phoenix coach Joe Hagler said. "The kids know they’re better than that. They went out today and played up to their ability." Advertisement The Pirates took advantage of four walks, two hit batters, a Hidden Valley error and Lorton’s two-base hit in streaking to a 6-0, first-inning lead. Lorton, batting eighth in the lineup, went 3-for-4, scored three runs and had four RBIs to pace the Pirates’ hitting parade. Chad Walker (two hits, two runs, four RBIs), Robert Woodward (two hits, one run, three RBIs), Dustin Smith (two hits, four runs) and Brenton Ferguson (two hits, three runs) also had big days for Phoenix, which improved to 2-2 in Skyline Conference play and 6-3 overall. Hidden Valley dropped to 1-3 in league and 4-5 overall. Girls Golf CASCADE CHRISTIAN WINS — In rain, hail and chilling high winds, Cascade Christian earned first place in the District 6 tournament at Cedar Links Golf Course. North Valley’s Ariel Huff shot a 100 to grab medalist honors. Nicole Plummer (106) and Whitney Winters (107) accounted for two of the tournament’s three lowest scores for Cascade Christian, which finished with a 441.
