Developer will propose mixed Croman site use Developers of the former Croman Mill site in south Ashland will go before the city planning commission Nov. 13 with a new proposal. Galpin LLC withdrew its earlier request for a zoning change and comprehensive plan amendment because the company has added additional acreage to the proposal and because the previous application lacked documentation that could have led to the project's denial. Galpin will propose a 65-acre mixed-use development with residences, commercial space, light industrial sites and medical facilities. A five-acre site on Mistletoe Road currently used by LTM Inc. for an asphalt operation will be included in the new plan. "Because of concerns about entry into the community from the north end, we felt we had to integrate (the five acres) into the site," said Bill Barchet, a project coordinator. "It's basically very similar to our original application." Public workshops in September and a joint session with the City Council and planning commission, as well as continuing dialogue with the planning department, led to fine tuning of the plan, said Barchet. The site may house a church with a private school, a retirement center with an Alzheimer's unit, affordable housing units and a tourist railroad station.
