David Wayne Anderson, 48, of the 800 block of Lawnsdale Road, Medford, was arrested as he left his house Wednesday. Detectives then searched the house and reported turning up evidence from the Medford boat theft and other crimes. Anderson was lodged in Jackson County Jail on two counts of aggravated theft, nine counts of first-degree theft, two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, six counts of being a felon in possession of a weapon and a single count of first-degree criminal mischief. He remained in jail Thursday morning on $190,000. On July 24, Willie Boat employees discovered the theft of two customer-owned boats from a fenced storage area on Justice Road. Each boat was valued at about $40,000, police said in a news release. They were recovered within days in the Medford area, but each had been stripped of about $20,000 worth of equipment, including motors and electrical components, such as navigation systems, fish finders and stereos. The day after the boat thefts were discovered, California Highway Patrol found Dennis Victor Lindsay, 37, of Brentwood, Calif., arguing with a woman on the side of Interstate 5 near California State Route 96. Routine checks found that a trailer he was towing had been reported stolen in North Dakota and its license plate was from another trailer, also stolen in North Dakota. Boat motors and marine electronics found in the trailer were traced back to the boats stolen from Willie Boats. Evidence collected there, from the recovered boats and from the storage yards, along with surveillance video linked Anderson and Lindsay to the theft, police said. Investigators said Wednesday's search of Anderson's house uncovered evidence associated with the Willie Boat case and a stolen flatbed trailer from North Dakota. Detectives also located seven firearms, four of which were reported stolen in North Dakota and California, police said. Anderson is a felon who is not allowed to possess firearms. The case, which remains under investigation, will be presented to a Jackson Count grand jury. Anyone with information is asked to contact Medford Police Detective Jim Williams at 541-774-2230.
